Henry Goodman is to star in a London revival of Harold Pinter's The Birthday Party. The production, directed by Lindsay Posner, will play Birmingham and Bath before opening in the West End the week of April 11, according to Variety.
Goodman appeared on Broadway in Art, The Producers and Tartuffe. He is a two-time Olivier Award winner, having taken home honors for his performances in The Merchant of Venice and Assassins. His other theatrical credits include Hysteria, Broken Glass, Guys and Dolls, Chicago, Angels in America, Feelgood and Follies. Goodman's film credits include Notting Hill, Mary Reilly, Private Parts, The Saint, The Life and Death of Peter Sellers and Out On a Limb.
The Birthday Party premiered in 1958 at the Arts Theatre in Cambridge. It centers on hapless musician Stanley Webber who is seeking solitude at an isolated, dingy seaside boarding house. But his peace is interrupted with the arrival of two strangers, Goldberg Goodman and McCann, who are clearly there to get him.
