The Primary Stages production of Michele Lowe's String of Pearls will only complete one week of its announced two-week extension. The play, which stars Antoinette LaVecchia, Ellen McLaughlin, Mary Testa and Sharon Washington, will now close at 59E59 Theater on October 31.
Inspired by interviews with over 200 people, String of Pearls tells of a fated necklace that changes the lives of over two dozen characters. Their stories twist and turn through a myriad of emotional turmoil as the necklace touches the lives of all who come in contact with it.
String of Pearls, directed by Eric Simonson, opened off-Broadway on September 28. In his Broadway.com Review of the play, William Stevenson wrote: "Michele Lowe's String of Pearls follows a strand of pearls as they pass from one woman to another. It's an extremely circuitous path, and a far-fetched one as well. Those willing to suspend their disbelief will encounter some intriguing characters along the way, but Lowe introduces so many that it's not always easy to keep track of them all… With Primary Stages' handsome production and the dynamite Mary Testa, String of Pearls sometimes shines. But in the end, Lowe's loosely connected stories don't hold together."
