Masterson & Weber to Star in London's Anthems

Mary Stuart Masterson and Steven Weber will join previously announced star Kevin Spacey in the Old Vic Theatre Company production of Dennis McIntyre's National Anthems. The play, directed by David Grindley, is scheduled to run from February 1 through April 23.

Masterson appeared as Maggie in this summer's Kennedy Center mounting of Tennessee Williams' Cat on a Hot Tin Roof. She was nominated for a 2003 Best Featured Actress in a Musical Tony Award for her performance in Nine on Broadway. Masterson understudied the role of Alice played by Kate Burton in the 1982 Broadway production of Alice in Wonderland. Her off-Broadway credits include The Lucky Spot, Lily Dale and Been Taken. Masterson, daughter of Tony Award-winning actress Carlin Glynn and Broadway actor/librettist/director Peter Masterson who worked together on The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas, is best known for her work in Hollywood. Her film credits include At Close Range, Chances Are, Fried Green Tomatoes, Benny & Joon, Bad Girls, Bed of Roses, Dogtown and The Book of Stars. In 2001, she starred as the title character in the short-lived television series Kate Brasher.

Weber's Broadway credits include The Real Thing, Home Front, Loot and The Producers. This summer he starred alongside Marisa Tomei and Campbell Scott in Design for Living at the Williamstown Theatre Festival. Weber is best known for playing Brian Hackett on the NBC sitcom Wings, which ran for seven seasons starting in 1990. Other TV credits include the American Playhouse version of Mark Twain's Pudd'nhead Wilson, As the World Turns, The Weber Show, Once and Again, The D.A. and many TV movies. On the big screen, he has appeared in the film adaptation of Paul Rudnick's Jeffrey as well as Hamburger Hill, Single White Female, Dracula: Dead and Loving, Leaving Las Vegas, Sour Grapes and Timecode. He will appear the upcoming Showtime television movie based on the stage musical Reefer Madness.

National Anthems centers on Arthur and Leslie Reed Weber and Masterson, newcomers to the area, who are clearing up after a house-warming party when one of their neighbors, Ben Cook Spacey, arrives unannounced on their doorstep. The play chronicles the clash between the affluent couple with social aspirations, and the blue-collar neighbor they grudgingly invite into their home.
