"We will miss Dana in the Broadway production, but we understand and respect her decision to prioritize her family at this important time. We admire her strength and look forward to working with her in the future," MTC Artistic Director Lynne Meadow said in a statement.
Reeve starred in the tryout of Brooklyn Boy as Nina, the ex-wife of central character Eric Weiss played by Adam Arkin, at the South Coast Repertory earlier this fall. However on October 10, the day of the final performance in California, Reeve's husband Christopher Reeve died of heart failure.
Brooklyn Boy would have marked Reeve's second Broadway appearance, following her 1998 debut in the play More to Love. Her other theatrical credits include Portraits off-Broadway.
Brooklyn Boy, directed by Daniel Sullivan and scheduled to run at the Biltmore from January 13 through March 20, will continue to star Adam Arkin, Ari Graynor, Arye Gross, Kevin Isola, Mimi Lieber and Allan Miller. A replacement for Reeve will be announced at a later date.
