A new musical featuring the songs of Bob Marley is readying for a West End production in 2006. The tuner is being produced by Clear Channel Entertainment.
Both in Jamaica in 1945, Marley left home in his early teens to pursue a music career and eventually rose to become Reggae's most popular figure. By the mid-1970s he had found worldwide acclaim with his band the Wailers. His hit singles include "No Woman, No Cry," "Buffalo Soldier," "I Shot the Sheriff," "Waiting in Vain," "Redemption Song," "Jammin'" and "Exodus." Marley died of cancer in 1981.
There are currently two different West End musicals featuring the pre-existing song catalogs of popular music groups: the ABBA tuner Mamma Mia! and the Queen musical We Will Rock You are both currently running, although We Will Rock You may be closing next summer. The Lord of the Rings musical is reportedly eyeing an October 2005 at its home, the Dominion Theatre.
