Tommy Chong, who has often publicly advocated the use of marijuana, will step into the off-Broadway comedy The Marijuana-Logues for two weeks only--from December 7 through December 19 at the Actors' Playhouse. He will appear onstage alongside two of the show's creators and original cast members, Doug Benson and Tony Camin.
Chong is best know as half of the Cheech & Chong comedy team with Cheech Marin. During their reign, the duo recorded six gold comedy albums including the 1974 Grammy Award-winning Los Cochinos and starred in seven films, most of which Chong co-wrote and directed, such as the smash hit Up in Smoke. In September 2003, he was arrested for selling pipes that could be used to smoke marijuana over the Internet. He was released from prison in July of this year.
The Marijuana-Logues, directed by Jim Millan, opened off-Broadway on March 30. In his Broadway.com Review of the production, William Stevenson wrote: "This ode to pot by three stoners--I mean, stand-up comedians--exhausts just about every possible joke on the subject for 90 minutes. It's collegiate humor that, as one might expect, wears a little thin before the end. But along the way there are some comic highs."
Chong will tour with the show on the West Coast beginning in February.
