Directed by Judy Jacksina and choreographed by Robin Carrigan, 1966 promises to recreate a night on the Sunset Strip, a place everybody wanted to be and be seen in the mid-1960s. The band is appropriately named 1966 and will feature lead singer Jamie Gustis, drummer Travis Harrison, guitarist Dave Siedel and keyboardist Harold Stephan. The go-go girls will be seen doing such dances as The Twist, The Frug, The Watusi, The Monkey, The Swim, The Mashed Potato and The Pony, to name just a few.
Press materials for 1966 describe the event as the following: "The party started on the Sunset Strip. It spilled out onto the street, spread to the rest of the world and has found its way, 40 years later, to the corner of 21st Street and 11th Avenue. It's about time."
Off-Broadway's long-running The Donkey Show will continue to play at the Flamingo on Friday at 9pm and Saturday at 10:30pm. 1966 will officially open on February 12.
