News broke last week that Andrew Lloyd Webber was considering selling the four theaters, which are primarily used for straight plays. The small theaters, which need renovation, have long lost money and many in the theatrical community think they will never make money as traditional legit venues. If Combs does purchase one of the theaters, he will not necessarily keep it as a West End house. He could possibly turn it into a restaurant or club.
There is no telling whether Lloyd Webber will want to sell the theaters one at a time. Reports have been circulating that The Ambassador Theatre Group or Cameron Mackintosh may bid on all of the theaters. There has also been talk of Lloyd Webber selling off his whole empire, including all his theaters and the rights to his shows.
