Tony winner Betty Buckley, currently performing at the Cafe Carlyle, will teach a song interpretation master class at T. Schreiber Studio. The six-week lesson will start on March 13 at the Chelsea school and continue through April 4.
"It's really a fun class," Buckley told Broadway.com. "I teach meditation and universal spiritual philosophy and then we work individually with a pianist." Buckley points out proudly that she's been a teacher now for 35 years, having recently started teaching song interpretation and scene study at the University of Texas at Arlington as well. "Everything good that I know was taught to me by great teachers and I feel like giving back and sharing the technique is the thing to do."
Buckley won a Tony Award for her performance as Grizabella in the original Broadway company of Cats. She received her second nomination in 1998 for Triumph of Love and has also been seen on the Great White Way in 1776, Pippin, Song and Dance, The Mystery of Edwin Drood, Carrie and Sunset Boulevard. Off-Broadway Buckley has starred in I'm Getting My Act Together and Take It On the Road, The Eros Triology and William Finn's Elegies. Smoke, her new show at the Cafe Carlyle, plays through April 9.
The T. Schreiber Studio is located at 151 West 26th Street in Manhattan. Buckley's song interpretation class costs $900 for full participants and $500 to take part as an observer. Call 212 741-0209 for more information.
