NYTW Two Solo Shows: Score and Songs from an Unmade Bed

New York Theatre Workshop will do something a little unusual for its season finale--it will present two solo shows in repertory. Score, starring Tom Nelis as Leonard Bernstein, will begin performances on April 26. Songs from an Unmade Bed, a musical featuring the work of many different composers, will begin performances on May 12 with Michael Winther.

Score focuses on Leonard Bernstein's passionate, glorious relationship with music. With a score that includes music by Brahms, Haydn, and Mozart, director Anne Bogart and writer Jocelyn Clarke who adapted Bernstein's own writings showcase Bernstein's talents as a showman, teacher, tastemaker and ego-driven charmer. The show, created by the SITI Company who previously work at NYTW includes Bob and Culture of Desire, is set to officially open on May 1.

Songs from an Unmade Bed features music by Debra Barsha, Mark Bennett, Peter Foley, Jenny Giering, Peter Golub, Jake Heggie, Stephen Hoffman, Lance Horne, Gihieh Lee, Steve Marzullo, Brendan Milburn, Chris Miller, Greg Pliska, Duncan Sheik, Jeffrey Stock and Joseph Thalken. Each composer has contributed one song to the tuner and each song features lyrics by Mark Campbell. The tunes tell the story of a gay New Yorker's heartaches and triumphs in the big city. Directed by David Schweizer and with musical direction by Kimberly Grigsby, the piece will officially open on May 24.

New York Theatre Workshop is currently presenting Eyewitness Blues, which is scheduled to closed on April 10.
