Miss Julie explores the complex dynamic between an aggressive heiress and her father's servant, with whom she is having a passionate affair.
Roundabout originally planned on presenting Miss Julie during its 2002-2003 season in a production directed by David Leveaux and featuring Natasha Richardson currently starring at Studio 54 in A Streetcar Named Desire and Philip Seymour Hoffman. Richardson withdrew from the planned mounting the summer before it was scheduled to begin and, while there were reports that Rachel Weisz would step in, the whole thing was cancelled in September 2002.
The Roundabout was expected to present Sweeney Todd at Studio 54 in the fall, but the non-profit lost the rights to that musical to commercial producers. Miss Julie will fill the slot vacated by that loss. The Threepenny Opera--featuring Alan Cumming, Edie Falco and Nellie McKay--is already slated to be at Studio 54 in Spring 2006.
A production spokesperson could not confirm Miss Julie for the Roundabout 2005-2006 season.
