The Signature Theatre Company is cutting the run of Paula Vogel's Hot 'N' Throbbing short. The show, originally scheduled to run off-Broadway through May 1, will now close on April 17.
In Hot 'N' Throbbing, Charlene Lisa Emery writes erotic screenplays to support her troubled teenage son Matthew Stadelmann and daughter Suli Holum while trying to keep her estranged, obsessive husband Elias Koteas away from the three of them. The cast of the production also includes Rebecca Wisocky.
The production, directed by Les Waters, opened on March 28. In his Broadway.com Review, William Stevenson wrote: "Hot 'N' Throbbing is inventive. Here Vogel experiments with cinematic devices, which is an intriguing idea. Unfortunately, the execution isn't very successful… Vogel's dialogue isn't compelling. The tone also wavers, quickly turning very dark. Even the subject of the play changes, as Vogel tries to make a comment on domestic violence. Like other elements of the play, the sudden shift doesn't work. Other than the occasionally slack pacing, the production is solid."
