In Privilege, the lives of two affluent Upper East Side teens are irrevocably changed when their father Bob Saget is accused of insider trading. Set in Manhattan in 1987--the era of Ivan Boesky and junk bond financier Michael Milken--Privilege follows these two young boys, 16-year old Porter Harry Zittel and 12-year old Charlie Conor Donovan, as they re-examine their relationship and their world. The cast also includes Florencia Lozano and Carolyn McCormick.
Privilege, directed by Peter Askin, opened on April 25 to mixed reviews. In his Broadway.com Review of the piece, William Stevenson wrote: "Director Peter Askin, who lets the pace drag in places, can't seem to decide if Privilege is a comedy or drama. Then again, the uncertain tone probably originates with Weitz who wrote the play Roulette, produced last spring, and the screenplay for About a Boy. Overall the tone is light, but at times it turns unexpectedly serious. Lewis Flinn's heavy-handed piano-and-violin music between scenes accentuates the somber side. It's so earnest sounding that it doesn't really fit the play."
