The 2005 Drama League Awards were announced at a special awards luncheon, with Doubt star Cherry Jones serving as the master of ceremonies, on May 13 at Broadway Ballroom of the Marriott Marquis Hotel. Lea DeLaria, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Sutton Foster, John Lithgow, Frances Sternhagen and Leslie Uggams served as honorary co-chairs of the event.
The Drama League is devoted to supporting and strengthening theater in America by broadening and stimulating the audience for quality theater and by developing emerging talents for careers in the theater. This is the 70th year its members have voted on these awards.

Distinguished Production of a Musical Dirty Rotten Scoundrels
Distinguished Production of a Revival of a Play Twelve Angry Men
Distinguished Production of a Revival of a Musical La Cage aux Folles
Distinguished Performance of the Year
Norbert Leo Butz, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels
In addition to these awards, three other honors were given out at the May 13 ceremony. The BMI Musical Theatre Workshop received the Distinguished Achievement in Musical Theatre Award. Mike Nichols Spamalot was awarded the Julia Hansen Award for Excellence in Directing. The Billy Rose Theatre Collection at the NY Public Library at Lincoln Center received the Unique Contribution to Theatre Award.
