Weldon appeared on Broadway in The River Niger, which was presented by the Negro Ensemble Company. His work with that company also includes mountings of The Great MacDaddy, The Offering, The Brownsville Raid and A Soldier's Play. His film credits include Serpico, The River Niger, Stir Crazy, Malcolm X and Clockin' Green. He began his career as lead singer in the Paradons, writing and recording the hit, "Diamonds and Pearls."
The play, directed by Seret Scott, will begin previews on June 2 a change from the originally scheduled May 31 start date and open on June 23.
