Darlene Love to Join the Cast of B'way's Hairspray on July 7

Darlene Love is set to replace original cast member Mary Bond Davis in Hairspray. The singer will begin performances as Motormouth Maybelle on July 7, a production spokesperson confirmed to Broadway.com.

Love has appeared on Broadway in Leader of the Pack, Carrie and Grease. She is best known for her recording career. Her string of hits singles includes "He's a Rebel," "Da Doo Ron Ron," "He's Sure the Boy I'm Going to Marry" and "Christmas Baby Please Come Home." Among her other notable credits are playing Danny Glover's wife in the Lethal Weapon movies and appearing in the musical Me and Mrs. Jones at the Prince Music Theatre.

Hairspray currently stars Bruce Vilanch, Marissa Jaret Winokur, Todd Susman, Richard H. Blake, Chester Gregory II, Jordan Ballard, Tracy Miller, Davis and Barbara Walsh.
