Dr. Sex to Play at Peter Norton Space; Simard Tapped for Tuner

Broadway.com has learned that Dr. Sex, a musical about Alfred Kinsey, has found its New York home in the Peter Norton Space where the Signature Theatre Company holds it season. The show, which will feature three-time Drama Desk nominee Jennifer Simard as Dr. Kinsey's wife, Clara, is set to begin a limited engagement at the venue in late August.

Dr. Sex had its world premiere at the Bailiwick Repertory Theatre in the fall of 2003 and was once reported for a Broadway run. Like the acclaimed film Kinsey, this musical is based on the life story of Alfred Kinsey, who authored The Kinsey Report and revolutionized sex education. The tuner features a score by Larry Bortniker and book by Bortniker and Sally Deering.

Simard has received Drama Desk nominations for her work in Forbidden Broadway: Special Victims Unit, The Thing About Men and I Love You, You're Perfect, Now Change. Her other theatrical credits include mountings of Speed-the-Plow, A Midsummer Night's Dream and Othello.

While no end date for the engagement of Dr. Sex has been announced, the show would likely need to be out of the Peter Norton Space by November, when Signature is launching its season.

No casting or scheduling has been confirmed for Dr. Sex. A production spokesperson was unavailable to comment on plans for the tuner.
