Heroes, a play by Gérald Sibleyras adapted by Tom Stoppard, will begin a 14-week limited engagement at the Wyndham's Theatre on October 7. Richard Griffiths, John Hurt and Ken Stott will star.
Heroes is set in 1959. Gustave, Philippe and Henri are residents of a French Military Hospital. Will today be the day they escape? Sibleyras's play, under the title Le Vent des Peupliers, was produced in Paris two years ago and became an enormous success. Stoppard has adapted the play into English.
Griffiths earned great acclaim and the Olivier and Evening Standard Awards for his performance in The History Boys, which he will star in on Broadway this spring. Hurt is a British Academy Award-winner for The Elephant Man, Midnight Express and The Naked Civil Servant. He was also nominated for Oscar gold for The Elephant Man and Midnight Express, but did not win for either. Stott won an Olivier Award for Arthur Miller's Broken Glass at the Royal National Theatre.
Heroes, directed by Thea Sharrock, is currently scheduled to officially open on October 18 and end its run on January 14.
