The musical Behind The Iron Mask, which just opened at the Duchess Theatre on August 2, will end its West End run on August 20.
Behind the Iron Mask has music and lyrics by John Robinson and a book by Colin Scott and Melinda Walker. It tells the famous story of the Man in the Iron Mask, imprisoned for life, and his relationship with his jailer and a gypsy. The tuner, directed by Tony Craven, stars Three Degrees' Sheila Ferguson, Robert Fardell and Mark McKerracher.
Behind the Iron Mask received negative reviews when it opened earlier this week. Benedict Nightingale of The London Times wrote: "As gaol-musicals or dungeon-dramas go, Behind the Iron Mask is still the pits… The music sometimes has a pleasant Lloyd-Webbery lilt, but the lyrics are mostly vile and the sudden twists of behaviour would take platoons of psychologists to unravel."
