The Studio, a "play with dance" written, directed and choreographed by Christopher d'Amboise, will have its world premiere at the South Coast Repertory. The show is scheduled to run from March 31 through May 7.
The Studio tells the story of a choreographer with a public image larger than life. In a bare, mirrored studio high above Broadway, Emil creates a new ballet for two dancers--a veteran who has seen it all, and a newcomer who wants it all. Secrets are exposed and the stakes grow increasingly personal as the ballet evolves.
The show was originally slated to premiere at the South Coast Repertory in 2004 but was "indefinitely postponed for additional development," according to a release issued at the time. During that period, New York producers Emanuel Azenberg and Ben Sprecher were attached to the project.
