Cast Announced for Shanley's Defiance at Manhattan Theatre Club

Manhattan Theatre Club has announced complete cast of its world premiere production of John Patrick Shanley's Defiance. Chris Bauer, Trevor Long, Margaret Colin, Jeremy Strong and Chris Chalk will join previously announced star Stephen Lang in the play.

Bauer made his Broadway debut last season in A Streetcar Named Desire. Long appeared in another Shanley off-Broadway play, Out West at the Lucille Lortel Theatre. Colins' MTC credits include Sight Unseen original Off-Broadway production, Shanley's Psychopathia Sexualis and Aristocrats for which she received a Drama Desk nomination. Strong has appeared on the Gotham stage in A Matter of Choice, Rum & Vodka, Pearl and By The Bier. Chalk's theatrical credits include A Matter of Choice, Dutchmasters, The Children of Hericle, Good, Blue Silence, Songs of Robert, Bedroom Farce and Dragonflies.

Defiance is set on a United States Marine Corps base in North Carolina in 1971. Two officers, one black Chalk and one white Lang, are on a collision course over race, women and the high cost of doing the right thing.

Defiance, directed by Doug Hughes, is scheduled to begin performances at City Center Stage I on February 9 and officially open on February 28.
