Forbidden Broadway: Special Victims Unit will be taking a 10-week break from its run at the 47th Street Theatre this spring, sitting down in San Diego at the Theatre in Old Town during that period. The hiatus is required under the show's lease agreement with the 47th Street Theatre--each year the theater's resident company, The Puerto Rican Traveling Theatre, returns to the space for 10 weeks in order to present its season, requiring Forbidden Broadway to take a leave.
"We hate to miss any part of the season, but we did know when we originally made the deal with the 47th Street Theatre that we'd found the perfect space for our show, but we would be spending 10 weeks a year elsewhere, Forbidden Broadway producer John Freedson said in a statement. "We are thrilled that this year 'elsewhere' is San Diego."
Forbidden Broadway will play its last pre-hiatus New York performance on March 27 and return on June 9. It will run in San Diego from March 31 through June 4.
The current cast of the show includes Jerry Christakos, Donna English, Jeanne Montano and Jared Bradshaw. Creator Gerard Alessandrini will be on hand for the January 20 and January 27 performances at the 47th Street Theatre to hold talkback session with the audience.
