Mark Blum & Kellie Overbey to Star in The Music Teacher Off-Broadway

Mark Blum and Kellie Overbey will star in the New Group world premiere of The Music Teacher, which features words by Wallace Shawn and music by Allen Shawn. The production, directed by Tom Cairns, is scheduled to run at the Minetta Lane Theatre from February 21 through April 8.

Blum has appeared on Broadway in Twelve Angry Men, The Graduate, A Thousand Clowns, Gore Vidal's The Best Man, Lost in Yonkers, My Thing of Love and The Merchant. His off-Broadway credits include The Long Christmas Ride Home, The Waverly Gallery, Mizlansky/Zilinsky, Little Footsteps, It's Only a Play, Gus and Al, Key Exchange, Table Settings, Say Goodnight Gracie, The Seagull and The Triple Happiness.

Overbey was featured on the Great White Way in Buried Child, Present Laughter, Judgment at Nuremberg, QED and Twentieth Century. Overbey's off-Broadway credits include The Debutante Ball, Betty's Summer Vacation, Comic Potential, Gone Home and Hamlet. She also wrote the book for the musical Once Around the Sun, which ran at the Zipper Theater last year.

The Music Teacher is a story of creation and sexual obsession in which a younger teacher and his brilliant female student conceive and perform a new opera. In addition to Blum and Overbey, the cast will feature Jason Forbach, Wayne Hobbs, Jeff Picón, Sarah Wolfson, Ross Benoliel, Elisa Cordova, Lauren Jelencovich, Kristin Knutson, Stefanie Nava, Rebecca Robbins, Kathryn Skemp, Bobby Steggert formerly of All My Children and Kristina Valada-Viars.

The Music Teacher is scheduled to officially open on March 6.
