Martin Short: Fame Becomes Me previously titled Martin Short: If I'd Saved, I Wouldn't Be Here has announced a Broadway opening date of August 10 at a Shubert theater to be announced, according to a production spokesperson.
Martin Short: Fame Becomes Me, which is not a one-man show, combines musical comedy sketches and dance numbers. Filling the stage with unforgettable characters like Jiminy Glick, Ed Grimley and many others, Short brings over 20 years of comic genius to the stage. The production features songs and a script by Short and the Hairspray songwriting team of Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman. Wittman will direct.
The production previously scrapped a planned Boston tryout which was scheduled for this past fall and postponed Chicago dates originally slated for December 21, 2005 to January 8, 2006 because they conflicted with Short's filming dates for The Santa Clause 3. Fame Becomes Me will now tryout at the Curran Theater in San Francisco from April 25 through May 21 and then at Chicago's LaSalle Bank Theater from July 5 through July 16.
