Broadway Grosses: A Newbie and an Old Timer Buck a Downward Trend

Last week was a chilly one on Broadway as box office receipts for all but two shows dropped as compared to the previous week. Bridge & Tunnel, which opened to mostly rave reviews on January 26, bucked the downward trend with a jump of $28,320 to come in at $221, 390. The Phantom of the Opera was the only other show on the upswing--perhaps thanks to the amount of attention it gathered from recently becoming the longest running show in Broadway history. The musical filled the Majestic Theatre to 92.56% capacity and took in $649,738 a bump of $7,173 from the week before.
