Cast Announced for David Hare's Stuff Happens at the Public

Casting has been announced for the Public Theater production of David Hare's Stuff Happens. The show will feature Jeffrey DeMunn as Donald Rumsfeld, Zach Grenier as Dick Cheney, Peter Francis James as Colin Powell, Byron Jennings as Tony Blair, Gloria Reuben as Condoleezza Rice and Jay O. Sanders as George W. Bush.

DeMunn, who appeared at the Public last season in The Last Days of Judas Iscariot, received a 1983 Tony nomination for his performance in K2. Grenier has appeared on the Great White Way in Mastergate and Voices in the Dark. James' Broadway credits include Drowning Crow and On Golden Pond. A theater fixture, Jennings was recently featured on Broadway in A Touch of the Poet. Reuben is best known for her longtime role as Jeanie Boulet in the television series ER. Last year, Sanders appeared off-Broadway in the musical Lone Star Love and the drama The Argument.

The American Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld's famous response to the looting of Baghdad at a press conference on April 11, 2003 provides the title for this play, Stuff Happens. From events that have dominated international headlines for the last two years, Hare has fashioned both a historical narrative and a human drama about the frustrations of power and the limits of diplomacy. Hare will be in residence at the Public incorporating new material into the script that speaks to recent political events.

Stuff Happens, directed by Daniel Sullivan, is scheduled to begin performances at the Public Theater on March 28 a week later than previously announced. In addition to the stars named above, the cast will include George Bartenieff, Glenn Fleshler, Lameece Issaq, Ken Marks, David Pittu, Thomas Schall, Armand Schultz, Robert Sella, Brenda Wehle and Waleed F. Zuaiter.
