My One and Only, directed and choreographed by Dan Mojica, is scheduled to run September 5 through September 17. Set in 1920s America, My One and Only has music and lyrics by George Gershwin and Ira Gershwin and book by Peter Stone and Timothy S. Mayer. It features many Gershwin classics including "'S Wonderful," "Funny Face," "Strike up the Band" and "Nice Work If You Can Get It." The show centers on Captain Billy Buck Chandler, a daredevil aviator who is determined to be the first man in history to fly solo across the Atlantic, and his love interest, the beautiful English Channel swimmer Edythe Herbert.
Sunday in the Park with George features music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim and a book by James Lapine. The musical centers on an artist struggling to reconcile the perfect, imaginary world of his painting with the imperfect, messy world of real life. Act I revolves around Georges Seurat 1859-1891 and the creation of his signature painting "Sunday Afternoon On The Island Of La Grande Jatte." Seurat's inability to commit to anyone or anything but his work is echoed in Act II as George's great-grandson confronts his own artistic demons and failure to connect. Past and present merge as both Georges discover basic truths about art, human connection and the constant struggle to "break through to something new." The Reprise! mounting is scheduled to run January 30, 2007 through February 11, 2007.
No Strings, which features a book by Samuel Taylor, is the only show to feature both music and lyrics by Richard Rodgers. It was the first project Rodgers worked on after the death of Oscar Hammerstein II. No Strings earned Rodgers a Tony Award for Best Composer. The tuner centers on David, an author, and Barbara, a fashion model. The two fall in love in Paris, but the course of their relationship does not run smoothly. The show will close out the Reprise! season, running May 8, 2007 through May 20, 2007.
The 2006-2007 season is the tenth anniversary Reprise! season.
