The Roundabout Theatre Company is extending the sold-out limited engagement of its revival of The Pajama Game, headlined by Harry Connick, Jr., for an additional five shows from June 13 through June 17. The performances will benefit The Actors' Fund of America, The New Orleans Habitat Musicians' Village and Roundabout Theatre Company's Education Programs & Musical Theatre Fund. Ticket prices range from $250 through $2500.
"The Broadway community has been so supportive and welcoming to me in my debut that I simply had to find a way to show my appreciation," Connick, Jr. said in a statement. "The producers, cast and crew have generously agreed to join me in extending the run of The Pajama Game for a series of benefit performances. All proceeds from these five shows will benefit the Broadway community as well as the displaced musicians of my hometown of New Orleans. Thank you from the bottom of my heart and as we say in New Orleans, 'Eh, La Bas.'"
Richard Bissell's novel 7 1/2 Cents inspired The Pajama Game, which features music and lyrics by Richard Adler and Jerry Ross and a book by George Abbott and Bissell. In the musical comedy, a battle ensues when workers at the Sleep-Tite Pajama Factory demand a seven-and-a-half cent raise from their reluctant employers. Matters are complicated when the head of the Union Grievance Committee, Babe Williams Kelli O'Hara, falls in love with one of the company's leaders, Sid Connick, Jr..
This production, directed and choreographed by Kathleen Marshall, opened to mostly positive reviews on February 23 and quickly sold-out. It was originally scheduled to close on June 11. For tickets to the additional performances call Roundabout Ticket Services at 212-719-1300.
