The Public Theater has extended its limited engagement of David Hare's Stuff Happens for a second time. The show will now run through June 25. The following cast changes will be put in place on May 16: Tony Carlin will replace Armand Schultz Jonathan Powell, Robin Cook, Ensemble, Reed Birney will replace Byron Jennings Tony Blair, Sandra Shipley will replace Brenda Wehle New Labour Politician, Laura Bush, Ensemble and Larry Pine will replace Jeffrey DeMunn Donald Rumsfeld.
The American Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld's famous response to the looting of Baghdad at a press conference on April 11, 2003, provides the title for this play, Stuff Happens. From events that have dominated international headlines for the last two years, Hare has fashioned both a historical narrative and a human drama about the frustrations of power and the limits of diplomacy. Hare is in residence at the Public, incorporating new material into the script that speaks to recent political events.
Stuff Happens, directed by Daniel Sullivan, will continue to feature Zach Grenier as Dick Cheney, Peter Francis James as Colin Powell, Gloria Reuben as Condoleezza Rice and Jay O. Sanders as George W. Bush. It began performances at the Public on March 28 and officially opened on April 14.
