Film and television actor Fred Willard will star in the New York premiere of the comedy Elvis And Juliet, written by his wife, Mary Willard. The show will run at the Abingdon Theatre Company space on 36th Street from June 2 through July 2.
Willard appeared in Elvis and Juliet in Los Angeles and in a previous New York reading of the play. The actor, who has a long history in Hollywood, has become best known in recent years for his work in Christopher Guest's movies Waiting for Guffman, A Mighty Wind and Best in Show and on Everybody Loves Raymond, for which he received three Emmy Award nominations for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Comedy Series.
In Elvis and Juliet, college sweethearts Juliet Jones and Elvis Lesley's upcoming nuptials face the truest test of love—watching their two families come together for the first time. Juliet Lori Gardner is from a family of conservative Connecticut academics; Elvis Haskell King is from a flamboyant Las Vegas clan of "tribute artists." Willard is set to play Elvis' father. The show also features David Rasche, Bridget Clark, Warren Kelley, Christy McIntosh, Carole Monferdini, Pamela Paul and Justin Schultz.
