The Old Globe will present the world premiere of Kenneth Lonergan's Broadway-bound play The Starry Messenger, starring Matthew Broderick, as part of its 2006-2007 season. The show is scheduled to run at the San Diego theater from January 13, 2007, through February 18, 2007.
In The Starry Messenger, Mark Williams Broderick teaches astronomy at a non-research university in New York by day and adult classes at the Hayden Planetarium by night. He has a perfectly nice life with his wife and son, but he wants more. There's just one problem—his efforts to achieve his goals are at war with the compromises and financial considerations of daily life.
The Starry Messenger, directed by Lonergan, is set to officially open at the Old Globe on January 19. It was previously announced for a February start on the Great White Way.
In addition to The Starry Messenger, the Old Globe will present Hershey Felder's George Gershwin Alone, Greg Kotis' Pig Farm a co-production with the Roundabout Theatre Company, which is presenting it at the Laura Pels starting next month, Amy Freed's Restoration Comedy, August Wilson's Two Trains Running, Itamar Moses' The Four of Us, Annie Weisman's Hold Please, Edward Albee's Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?, the Timothy Mason/Mel Marvin musical How the Grinch Stole Christmas! and Max Branscomb's La Pastorela as part of its 2006-2007 season.
