Awake and Sing! Extends Through June 25 at the Belasco

Lincoln Center Theater has extended the run of its acclaimed revival of Clifford Odets' Awake and Sing! by two weeks. The show will now play at the Belasco Theatre through June 25.

Awake and Sing! tells the story of a Jewish family in the Bronx that falls on hard times during the Depression. Lauren Ambrose, Ned Eisenberg, Ben Gazzara, Jonathan Hadary, Peter Kybart, Mark Ruffalo, Pablo Schreiber, Richard Topol and Zoë Wanamaker star in the production, directed by Bartlett Sher.

This mounting opened on April 17 to positive notices. In his Broadway.com Review of the drama, Jason Clark wrote: "[It] hardly sounds like a high-spirited night at the theater especially in the age of perk and pep, but there are generous pockets of human comedy in Odets' tale. And best of all, this production retains the edginess of the text, providing so much shading to these characters that they never seem like cardboard mouthpieces for the poor and unfortunate."

Awake and Sing! won the 2006 Drama League Award for Distinguished Revival of a Play. The production is also up for many Drama Desk and Outer Critics Circle Awards. The nine-member ensemble cast of the show has already received a Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Ensemble.
