Forever known as Princess Leia from the Star Wars films, Fisher has had a complicated life. Daughter of Debbie Reynolds and Eddie Fisher, Fisher appeared onstage as part of her mother's nightclub act at a very young age. A manic depressive, she developed an addition to alcohol and drugs in the late 1970s. She married singer Paul Simon in August 1983 and the pair divorced less than a year later. A 1985 overdose led her to rehab and inspired her first novel Postcards from the Edge later turned into a hit film. She has also written the books Surrender the Pink, Delusions of Grandma and The Best Awful. Fisher married agent Bryan Lourd in April 1993, but the union ended in May 1995 with Lourd leaving her for a man. The couple had one child.
