Angela Bassett and Laurence Fishburne will headline August Wilson's Fences at the Pasadena Playhouse. The drama, directed by Pasadena Artistic Director Sheldon Epps, is scheduled to run at the California venue from August 25 through October 1.
Bassett and Fishburne currently onstage in California in Alfred Uhry's Without Walls at the Mark Taper Forum both have previously appeared in Wilson plays on Broadway she in Joe Turner's Come and Gone, he in Two Trains Running. They were first seen onscreen together in Boyz n the Hood, which was released in 1991. In 1993, they made a splash playing Tina and Ike Turner in What's Love Got to Do with It, a film that earned them both Oscar nominations. Earlier this year they appeared on the big screen in Akeelah and the Bee which Fishburne also produced. Back in 2002 Bassett and Fishburne were reportedly interested in appearing together in a Broadway revival of A Raisin in the Sun, but that production never materialized. The two have never worked together onstage.
