Hunter Foster will step back into the role of Leo Bloom in The Producers on July 27. Tony winner Roger Bart, who has been playing Bloom since Foster last departed the musical on May 14, is leaving to film the SciFi Channel miniseries The Lost Room.
Foster has done multiple stints as Bloom on Broadway. Foster received a Tony nomination for his work as Seymour Krelbourn in Little Shop of Horrors. He originated the role of Bobby Strong in the Broadway and off-Broadway companies of Urinetown for which he earned Outer Critic Circle and Lortel Award nominations. His other Broadway credits include Grease, Footloose and Les Misérables. Foster also notably toured nationally in Cats, was a member of the Martin Guerre company, appeared in Children of Eden at Paper Mill Playhouse, starred in Mister Roberts at the Kennedy Center and starred off-Broadway in Modern Orthodox.
Foster will join a cast that features John Treacy Egan as Max Bialystock, Gary Beach as Roger DeBris, Brad Musgrove as Carmen Ghia, Bill Nolte as Franz Liebkind and Angie Schworer as Ulla. Bart has been out for a few days due to filming commitments and will miss tonight's July 21 performance of The Producers, but will be in the show on Saturday and Sunday July 22 and 23. It is unknown whether he will be able to perform Tuesday and Wednesday July 25 and 26—audience members at those performances will see Bart or one of his understudies Justin Greer and Stacey Todd Holt.
