Voyage with Jacobi to Transfer to the Wyndham's Theatre in the West End

The Donmar Warehouse production of John Mortimer's A Voyage Round My Father, starring Derek Jacobi and directed by Thea Sharrock, will transfer to the West End's Wyndham's Theatre on September 14, with an official opening on September 21. The engagement at the Donmar will ends on August 5.

"We are thrilled to announce the West End transfer of Thea Sharrock's production of A Voyage Round My Father," Donmar Artistic Director Michael Grandage said in a statement. "This autobiographical work by John Mortimer has delighted audiences at the Donmar and we're delighted to have the opportunity to take it to a wider audience at the Wyndham's."

The production, which began performances at the Donmar on June 8, stars Jacobi in the role of Mortimer's father, and Dominic Rowan as Mortimer himself, called here Son. Both will reprise their roles in the transfer. They are joined by Christopher Benjamin, Lily Bevan, Neil Boorman, Osmund Bullock, Joanna David, Jamie de Courcey, Natasha Little, Sadie Shimmin and Katie Warren.

Jacobi was last seen in the West End in Grandage's production of Don Carlos that transferred from the Sheffield Crucible to the Gielgud in February 2005. Prior to that, he played the role of Prospero in Grandage's production of The Tempest that came to the Old Vic in 2003.

In his Theatre.com Review of the production, Matt Wolf wrote, "A celebrated tribute from a son to his blind and brilliant father makes for genial if none-too-deep summer viewing in the Donmar revival of A Voyage Round My Father, the John Mortimer memoir that is itself fondly remembered by many from its earlier stage incarnations and a TV version that starred Laurence Olivier... On press night at least, there wasn't much in Thea Sharrock's sympathetic production to match the simple impact of the presence in the audience of the wheelchair-bound Mortimer, himself now enfeebled by age, applauding a play on the fundamental topic of rage in the face of death."

The Wyndham's current tenant, Sunday in the Park with George, will end its limited engagement on September 2.
