Kelli O'Hara, who was nominated for Tony Awards for the past two years for her work in The Light in the Piazza and The Pajama Game, will star in the new Paul Scott Goodman musical Alive in the World, premiering as part of the 2006 New York Musical Theater Festival. Joining her will be fiancé Greg Naughton, Aaron Lohr and Marcy Harriell. Sh-K-Boom Records president Kurt Deutsch will make his directorial debut with the musical.
Set in modern day New York City, Alive In The World follows Kate Harriell, a political activist, who is married to Sam Naughton, a prematurely retired Wall Streeter, but she falls for Michael Lohr, a painter. Sam meets Stella Kelli O'Hara, a 9/11 widow.
O'Hara has also been featured on Broadway in Dracula, Sweet Smell of Success, Follies and Jekyll & Hyde. Naughton founded off-Broadway's now defunct Blue Light Theater Co., serving as Artistic Director for six seasons and starring in its acclaimed production of Golden Boy. Seen off-Broadway last season in See What I Wanna See, Lohr has also appeared off-Broadway in Bare, Radiant Baby and Corpus Christi. Harriell made her Broadway debut as Mimi in Rent and was featured in last season's Lennon.
Alive In The World will play for five performances at the Sage Theater at 711 Seventh Avenue starting September 14.
