Felicia P. Fields, who currently stars in The Color Purple on Broadway, is set to reprise her Tony-nominated performance as Sofia in the tuner when it kicks off its national tour in her hometown of Chicago. The Color Purple tour will begin on April 17, 2007 at Chicago's Cadillac Palace Theatre.
In order to prepare for the tour, Fields will play her final performance as Sofia in the Broadway production on January 28, 2007 and Broadway newcomer NaTasha Yvette Williams will take over the role beginning January 30, 2007.
Williams was last seen on the tour of All Shook Up. Other tour credits include Seussical, Cinderella, Parade, The Goodbye Girl and Nahalia.
Further casting for the national tour of The Color Purple has yet to be confirmed. In addition to Fields, the Broadway company currently stars LaChanze, Elisabeth Withers-Mendes, Kingsley Leggs, Brandon Victor Dixon, Darlesia Cearcy and Krisha Marcano. Jeannette I. Bayardelle will replace LaChanze as Celie on November 6.
