Broadway Grosses: Like Autumn Leaves, Box Office Falls

The Broadway box office experienced a slight dip overall in the week ending November 5, with more than half the shows drawing less than 80% of capacity. Several newcomers rose to the top of the pack, however: Mary Poppins made the top five for grosses, bringing in $866,182 at the New Amsterdam Theatre. A Chorus Line continued its strong performance, drawing 97.53% capacity at the Schoenfeld Theatre. The first part of Tom Stoppard's epic Russian trilogy The Coast of Utopia cracked the top five while in previews at Lincoln Center Theater, filling the Vivian Beaumont Theatre to 94.17% capacity.
