Las Vegas Production of Mamma Mia! to Close in Summer 2008

Mamma Mia! has announced that it will end its successful five and a half year engagement at the Mandalay Bay Theatre in Las Vegas in late summer of 2008. The production is the longest running and most successful full-length Broadway musical ever to play Las Vegas. Indeed, it ranks as the only Broadway show that developed a long-term following in Sin City as titles such as Chicago, Avenue Q and Hairspray came and went. A shortened version of The Phantom of the Opera is currently playing at the Venetian.

Producer Judy Craymer said in a statement, "We are confirming that we will end this Las Vegas run of Mamma Mia! now to let visitors know that they should plan ahead to see the production on their next visit to Nevada. 2008 promises to be a very exciting year for Mamma Mia! as we are in discussions about bringing the show to new markets, including South America." The show currently has a total of 11 productions playing in seven languages around the world, and may re-open in Toronto after the Las Vegas run ends. By closing, Mamma Mia! will have played more than 2,300 performances in Las Vegas.
