John O'Hurley, best known for his stint on the first season of TV's Dancing with the Stars and as the new face of Family Feud, will star as King Arthur in the Las Vegas production of Spamalot. The new Spamalot company will begin performances at the custom-built "Spamalot Experience and Grail Theatre" in the Wynn Las Vegas on March 8, with opening night set for March 31.
O'Hurley made his Broadway debut a year ago as Billy Flynn in Chicago. In addition to Dancing with the Stars, O'Hurley's TV credits include Seinfeld and countless primetime guest spots. He has also lent his voice to several popular cartoons such as SpongeBob SquarePants, Father of the Pride, Kim Possible and Family Guy. O'Hurley has stage experience as well. He has appeared in national tours of Pirates of Penzance, Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, Brigadoon and Same Time Next Year.
Lovingly "ripped-off" from the internationally famous comedy team's most popular motion picture, Monty Python and the Holy Grail, Spamalot tells the legendary tale of King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table and the quest for the Holy Grail. According to production materials, it features "a chorus line of legless knights, men in tights with legs, killer rabbits and sexy dancing divas." The show won 2005 Tony Awards for Best Musical, Best Director for Mike Nichols and Best Featured Actress in a Musical for Sara Ramirez.
Additional casting for the Las Vegas company has yet to be announced.
