Broadway Grosses: Audiences Q Up for Broadway Over Holiday Weekend

The Martin Luther King Day holiday weekend kept tourists in the theater district, which in turn kept box offices busy. Avenue Q showed its enduring strength, jumping to 96.78% capacity at the Golden Theatre and beating out top-five mainstays The Lion King and Mary Poppins. Jersey Boys and Wicked continue to be tops in both gross and capacity, while other long-running musicals like Hairspray, The Producers and The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee experienced a January downturn. On the dramatic front, Nathan Lane ended his Broadway run in Butley at the Booth Theatre, leaving four plays on the Great White Way.
