Broadway Grosses: January Chill Continues at the Box Office

It was another tough week for Broadway as winter temperatures continued to keep audiences away from the box office. Only three shows reached above 90% in capacity, with many falling below 75%. New musicals Grey Gardens and Spring Awakening continued to hold fairly steady, both bringing in more than $400,000 this week. Translations, one of only three plays currently running on Broadway, filled the Biltmore Theatre to 74.31% during its opening week. Tom Stoppard's The Coast of Utopia took a week off at Lincoln Center Theater to prepare for the beginning of previews of its third part, "Salvage."
