Tony winner Bob Martin of The Drowsy Chaperone will star in "The Broadway Musicals of 1928," which kicks off the seventh season of the popular "Broadway by the Year" series at Town Hall on February 26. Conceived and hosted by Scott Siegel, the concert will feature Nancy Anderson, Joyce Chittick, Jeffry Denman, Malcolm Gets, Eddie Korbich, Lari White and more stars to be announced. Joel Froomkin is the director, and Ross Patterson is the musical director.
Among the songs introduced onstage in 1928 were Rodgers & Hart's "You Took Advantage of Me" Present Arms, the Dorothy Fields/Jimmy McHugh hit "I Can't Give You Anything But Love" Blackbirds of 1928, Cole Porter's "Let's Do It" Paris, Kalmar & Ruby's "Hooray for Captain Spaulding" Animal Crackers, Romberg/Hammerstein's "Softly as in a Morning Sunrise" The New Moon and many more.
The Town Hall's "Broadway by the Year" series continues with "The Broadway Musicals of 1938" on March 26, directed by Emily Skinner; "The Broadway Musicals of 1959" on April 30, directed by Marc Kudisch; and "The Broadway Musicals of 1964, Part II" on June 18, directed by Dan Foster.
