Sunday in the Park, Blackbird and Caroline Top 2007 Olivier Awards

The Broadway-bound revival of Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine's Sunday in the Park with George swept the 31st Annual Laurence Olivier Awards, when they were announced on 18 February at the Grosvenor House Hotel in London. The revival, which began life at the Menier Chocolate Factory, won five out of the six awards for which it was nominated, including Outstanding Musical Production and Best Actor and Actress in a Musical for leads Daniel Evans and Jenna Russell. The Best New Play Award went to David Harrower's Blackbird, which beat out heavily favored contender Rock 'N' Roll by Tom Stoppard. The National's production of Caroline, or Change by Jeanine Tesori and Tony Kushner won Best New Musical ahead of Tony-winning American imports Avenue Q and Spamalot as well as Trevor Nunn's new production of Porgy and Bess.
