The Vineyard Theatre has announced a second one-week extension, through March 25, of its revival of J.M. Barrie's 1920 play Mary Rose. The production, which had previously been extended by a week, to March 18, opened to strong reviews on February 20.
Mary Rose is the haunting tale of a young woman's mysterious disappearance and her mysterious return to her family. Tina Landau's production for the Vineyard represents the play's first major revival in more than 50 years. Barrie is, of course, best known for Peter Pan, first staged on Broadway in 1905.
Paige Howard—a 21-year-old NYU theater student and daughter of film director Ron Howard—plays the title role and is making her professional debut in Mary Rose. Also in the cast are Keir Dullea Butterflies Are Free, Strings, the films The Good Shepherd, 2001: A Space Odyssey and the forthcoming The Accidental Husband, Betsy Aidem Celebration and The Room at Atlantic Theatre, Ian Brennan The Distance from Here at MCC, Susan Blommaert Measure for Pleasure at the Public, Michael Countryman Night Must Fall, Tom Riis Farrell Dirty Blonde, Darren Goldstein Abigail's Party, and Richard Short Entertaining Mr. Sloane at Roundabout.
