Broadway Grosses: School's Out, Box Office Is Up

The week following Presidents' Day was a healthy one for Broadway, with attendance apparently boosted by families who had the week off for Winter Break. A total of 18 shows filled their houses to more than 90% capacity, and The Color Purple and The Phantom of the Opera gained almost 20% in capacity. Mamma Mia! re-joined the Top 5 in both gross and capacity this week, earning $892,251 and filling the Winter Garden Theatre to more than 100%. A Chorus Line also re-joined the Top 5 in capacity, filling the Schoenfeld Theatre to 97.33%. Disney's Mary Poppins enjoyed a great week, earning more than $1,200,000 and filling the New Amsterdam Theatre to just shy of 100%.
