Candide to Replace Ragtime on City Opera's 2008 Schedule

Harold Prince's production of Leonard Bernstein's Candide will return to New York City Opera on April 8, 2008, replacing the previously announced Ragtime. It will run for 14 performances, through April 20, 2008, with a cast to be announced at a later date.

Candide has a book by Hugh Wheeler, adapted from Voltaire, and lyrics by Richard Wilbur, with additional lyrics by Leonard Bernstein, John Latouche and Stephen Sondheim. With original direction by Harold Prince and choreography by Patricia Birch. The show's sets are by Clarke Dunham, costumes by Judith Dolan, lighting by Ken Billington and sound by Abe Jacob. Candide was last seen at City Opera in 2005.
