Broadway Grosses: Blonde Bucks Downward Trend

Box offices took a hit this past week, with many shows dropping in both gross and capacity. Only eight Broadway offerings managed to fill their houses to more than 90%. Legally Blonde, in the week leading up to its April 29 opening night, filled the Palace Theatre to more than 96%. Star Vanessa Redgrave helped to keep The Year of Magical Thinking running at close to 95% capacity at the Booth, while another play, Tom Stoppard's The Coast of Utopia, continued to fill the Vivian Beaumont Theatre at Lincoln Center to over 90% in its final weeks.
