Nine additional presenters and details of planned musical numbers have been announced for the 61st annual Tony Awards ceremony, to be held on June 10 at Radio City Music Hall. The 2007 awards will be broadcast live on CBS in a three-hour-long telecast.
The Tony ceremony will feature musical numbers from each of the nominees for Best Musical Curtains, Grey Gardens, Mary Poppins and Spring Awakening as well as performances by the casts of the currently running Best Musical Revival nominees A Chorus Line, Company and 110 in the Shade; no number will be performed from The Apple Tree, which closed in March. The show will feature a special performance by Fantasia Barrino, now appearing on Broadway as in The Color Purple as Celie, the role that won LaChanze a Best Actress Tony last year.
In addition to previously announced presenters, the following actors have signed on to present Tonys: Jeff Daniels, Brian Dennehy, Judd Hirsch, Melina Kanakaredes, Robert Sean Leonard, John Mahoney, Cynthia Nixon, Christopher Plummer and Sam Waterston. The telecast will not have a celebrity host.
